Congratulations to Criss Zhang, who won the judges’ choice with his poster “Estimating the in-operando stabilities of AlFe2B2-based compounds for magnetic refrigeration” in the MIE annual event – 2018 Research Poster & Engineering-as-Art Expo/Competition.
This poster presents some recent experimental results concerning AlFe2B2-based magnetocaloric compounds, which is under consideration as a working material for magnetic refrigeration – a next-generation “green” cooling technology with improved energy efficiency. This type of material enables adiabatic temperature change upon the application or removal of a magnetic field. In this current work, the operating stabilities of AlFe2B2-based compounds were considered by mimicking two separate operating conditions (immersion in a heat transfer fluid and magnetic field cycling) of an active magnetic regenerator (AMR) refrigerator.
